Machu Picchu capacity extended

From March 28 to 31, 2024, the Ministry of Culture of Peru extends capacity for Machu Picchu, increasing the daily visitor limit from 4,500 to 5,000. This exceptional increase aims to provide more travelers with the opportunity to experience the iconic Inca citadel during one of the most popular tourism seasons of the year.

Additionally, the 500 extra tickets per day are now available through our official website: www.incatrail.org. This temporary measure, which extends capacity for Machu Picchu, is part of a pilot plan designed to evaluate the potential implementation of a dynamic capacity model. In the near future, this model could adjust visitor limits based on both demand and conservation priorities.

At the same time, the Ministry is carrying out preservation efforts and installing video surveillance systems. These actions are directly related to the plan that extends capacity for Machu Picchu, aiming to enhance visitor safety and safeguard the site’s cultural heritage.

Moreover, tickets are also available for in-person purchase at the Machu Picchu Cultural Center. There, 1,000 daily tickets are set aside for next-day entry. To obtain them, visitors must go in the morning and return after 3:00 p.m. to finalize the purchase.
